Garage Sale/Monster Dash

Two CCHS benefit events in one day! Our second garage sale for this year took place on Saturday, Oct 11th at the Winfield Fairgrounds. Donors of items were numerous and sales went great! Thanks to the donors, buyers, and board members who set up and worked the sale, we were able to make $1,900 for the shelter!
A huge thank you to all of our donors and buyers!

Opening the garage sale: Board member Julie DeGarmo, Board President Alice Shaffer, and VP Jessi Leeper
Frankie, Julie DeGarmo's dog, was the official greeter

Later that evening, adoptable dogs, shelter staff and volunteers attended the Monster Dash in Udall. The organizers of the Dash and Forest of Fear are long-time shelter supporters and donate a portion of the event income to the shelter. Thank you so much!

Update--River

River, the pit bull girl with the deformed leg, had finally found a home with an older couple during an adoption event at Petsense in Ponca City.

Sadly, because of circumstances beyond anyone's control, River had to be returned to the shelter just two weeks after what we had hoped would be her forever home.

Shelter staff was working on finding a rescue to take River in, because she had been at the shelter three times now. Off-site adoption coordinator, Dovie Browning, tried one last time to find a home for this girl at an adoption event in Wichita, but no luck.

One of the volunteers, Tim, offered to foster River until a rescue could be found. This resolution lasted only one car ride home. That car ride was enough for River to steal Tim's heart, and upon arrival at the shelter, he decided to give our sweet girl a forever home!

Petpalooza!

1-Mile Fun Walk Participants

CCHS celebrated its first annual Petpalooza on Saturday, September 27th at Black Creek Park. It was a success! Several walkers with their dogs came early to participate in the 1-Mile Fun Walk. Many others came to let their dogs run and play in the two off-leash dog parks and enjoy the vendors, live music, raffles, cake walk, doggie art, demonstrations and contests

An adoption event was also held and seven (!) dogs found new homes that day!

Thank you to all who made this event such a success! We made $1,000 to benefit the shelter!

Twelve Animals Found New Homes!

This weekend was a very busy one for our volunteer coordinator Dovie Browning and her volunteers! There were adoption events at PetSmart in Wichita and Petsense in Ponca City to attend and the organizer of Burden Days invited us to participate with a booth and walk adoptable animals in the parade.

We are so happy to report that during these events, 2 cats and 10 dogs found new families! Today, at Petsense, the adoption crew returned to the shelter without any animals--what a great success!

Remember River, the special needs pit girl whom we were looking for a home for? She found a new dad today in Ponca City! Tom visited with River at the event yesterday, because he was looking for a dog he could keep up with. He went home without her, but River was in his thoughts all night. He was so worried about her not finding a home, that he returned today to make sure she got that home today--River went home with Tom and his wife.

Another adoption was Bella, a senior Pekingese mix. Bella was longing for a place to spend her golden years, preferably in a lap. She found that lap today! The cute little dog with the overbite went home and will be a great companion for her new mom!

She is being fostered at the Winfield Correctional Facility and will stay there until she's cleared for adoption by our vet. Simone has been a real trooper! A HUGE thank you to Shannon, Karl & Dotti and Lois for contributing $160 toward her care! Simone's treatment has cost over $250; all donations are greatly appreciated!
